White bleached calico with a smooth plain weave finish . Perfect for making toiles, which we all know we should do. with each new pattern to check that the style suits us as well as fitting, but do we ??? After seeing the Dior show in London and seeing a huge room just filled with toiles, they looked absolutley stunning. The realisation that a toile can look stunning, the hunt was on for a bleached calico like Dior used, so the toile would be a joy to make as well as the finished garment. 

If making a toile always lengthen your stitch and use a coloured thread. A good way to use up those slightly strange thread colours that lurk in our sewing rooms. If you do any alterations then change the top thread on your machine, so it will always be a visual reminder of the changes you made, as well as writing on the calico then its there in front of you when you are making the real garment. Writing everything in a note book is wonderful but not all of us are that super organised.
